When it comes to interior design, things are constantly changing. Styles come and go. You may love them or you may hate them, but the secret is choosing the one thatmatches your home and your style best. Here are three quite different trends that are preferred now. If you’re in the mood for a change, they just might inspire you to take action.
THE MINIMALIST LOOK
Interior design professionals will most likely always have clients who want this look. It alters subtly from year to year, but the basics remain in clean lines, purposeful objects and lack of clutter. You can do your own home decorating and simply copy this popular home theme. Begin with clean walls and natural looking flooring, such as stone, marble or wood. Everything you have in the home should be kept to a minimum and have a function. For example, in the master bedroom, you would place a bed with simple bedding, two end tables featuring sleek lamps and a fabulous rug. Closet doors should match the walls if possible. Keep wall colors gentle in tones of white and pale grays or greens. Bring a couple of pieces of art in and an interesting book or statue, but no more than that!
GOING GREEN OR THE ECO LOOK
This look is huge in interior design in our modern times. The going green or eco look could actually be cousins with the minimalist approach. Again, clean lines and not a lot of extras. You would, however, use plenty of natural fibers all through the house. Wood floors from sustainable or reclaimed resources, scattered rugs made from numerous organic fibers, recycled glass and re-purposed furniture should all be integrated into your home decorating ideas. An eco living room, for example, should begin with wood flooring made from sustainable sources, natural paint in warm tones for the walls and recycled windows. Add furniture, pillows, window treatments, throws and a great rug, all created from natural fabrics and you are done. Don’t forget to light your beeswax candles to create the perfect mood in your eco room!
GO BRIGHT
Bright is popular in interior design this year. Imagine the hues of fiestaware dishes or an artist’s palette and you will be on the right track. Paint your walls in attractive colors like sunflower yellow, crimson red, sunny orange and various blues and purples. Intersperse the color paletteall through your home. For example, your dining room walls would look wonderful in crimson red. Add a farm style dining table and upbeat dining room chairs each flaunting a different color borrowed from your color theme, and then adorn them in alternating color chair cushions. Throw in a stunning chandelier, vibrant and colorful wall art, bundles of sunflowers and baby roses and a colorful buffet to complete your bright look!
No matter what whatstyle you decide on, your house will feel more alive just by making a change.
