How Do I Start An Organic Garden?

Currently, with the economy the way it is, much more people are looking to growing their own foods to cut back on expenses. The growing of organic vegetables isn’t as challenging as you may think.

Anyone with about two hours a day of time can have their own garden right now. The very best part about it is soon after the initial setup, you only have to operate on your garden for about an hour each week.

Getting started is truly easy too. It doesn’t make any difference whether you are an skilled gardener or this is your first time at bat, anybody can do this with ease. If you can follow some straightforward instructions, you too can be making the most of the very best quality, finest tasting, most nutrient rich vegetables in just a very quick time. My children helped me with mine and it gave them a steak in appreciating “their own” vegetables.

It doesn’t make a difference if you have a substantial backyard or not, you too can have your very own organic garden. I grew mine in a 6×8 box on my deck. I dwell in the city so I don’t have a backyard in which to develop my garden. I used to live in the country, and that was great.

When I had a life transforming experience a few years ago, I was forced to move nearer to work. Now I use my outdoor patio for my garden. I have a friend who lives in a high rise and he grows his garden on the roof of his building.

When I transferred to the city, I really missed my garden. I did some analysis and found a wonderful book that explained, in depth, how I could have my own garden where I was living now. The actions were genuinely straightforward.

First, I went and bought some wood, nails, etc. to assemble my box. I had a friend come over and help me to put it together. Once that was done, I was ready to begin planting.

I got a small load of soil from a nearby farmer, you can get soil just about anywhere or buy a sack of it from the local nursery. I then purchased my seeds and planted them. Add a little water and sunshine and the rest is pretty much history. That was three years ago and it is still producing today.

One of the nice points about gardening organic vegetables is that they grow year round.

I just thought I would write this article to let you know anyone, anywhere, can have a garden with very little effort if they really want one.

Organic Foods for Your Health

As a dental practice management consultant, I needed to make changes to my diet. So what did I do? I switched to organic foods. If you, like me, want to improve your health, a good place to start is by considering organic foods, which are all-natural and are not loaded with the additives, preservatives and processed sugars found in the processed foods that make up a large portion of people’s diets. Eating foods that are all-natural will help you to maintain a healthy weight, avoid diabetes and cardiovascular disease as well as make your teeth and gums look good.

In addition to be all-natural, what else makes organic foods differ from processed foods? Well, organic foods must meet stringent standards, iincluding the use of environmentally sound methods, no pesticides and no chemical fertilizers. Foods that meet these standards are then labeled with the certified organic sticker, which is visible and displayed prominently in the organic food sections at grocery stores.

Organic food is relatively easy to find if you know where to look. Most grocery stores have organic food sections and an organic produce section, and some even offer organic clothing and organic toothpaste. One of my dental clients advocates this product to his patients during dental consulting appointments. Another option is to visit a natural food store, which specializes solely in all-natural organic foods. With people becoming increasingly vigilante about their health and diets, doctors and dentists are encouraging an organic diet in their dental advertising and medical marketing campaigns and may often recommend specialty food stores, such as a natural food store. While smaller towns may not offer as many options to shop for organic food, you can easily buy it online. These online food stores offer many brands to choose from and often have good sales from organic baby food to organic vegetables to organic frozen meals.

With so many options of where to find organic food, whether it be a grocery store, a natural food market or an online retailer, you will have lots of choices when it comes to comparison shopping to not only find the best deal, but to ensure your health.

Laying a Foundation for Vegetarian Diet Nutrition

Following a plan of vegetarian diet nutrition, are you getting it all? First we have to shatter the myth that eating a Standard American Diet (SAD) provides you what your body actually needs.

If you’ve been studying at the Hippocrates Health Institute any amount of time , you now know that the food pyramid’s purpose is to serve the lobyists and not your health . Most people on the SAD are starving their body of vitamins and minerals, enzymes and phytochemicals.

Phytochemicals are the electricity inside the body. If your energy and reactions in your body are weak, this is the bottom line even more than vitamins and minerals.

You may be taking many vitamin supplements, but for the most part the body cannot digest and metabolize them because they are artificial. Only when we get back to our purpose and eat fresh organic plant-based food do we find the vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytochemicals the body can readily use.

You get all these directly from the food you eat when you eat growing sprouts: sunflower seed sprouts, pea green sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, bean sprouts…

…The growing sprouts and wheatgrass have literally 30 times the phytochemicals you find even in other organic vegetables.

Plant-based food in its raw unaltered state contains about half the enzymes you need to digest it. So you can imagine the onus you are placing on your body if you regularly consume food that does not come with its own digestive enzymes and is also not easily digestible.

The digestive system is the most energy intensive of all the body’s systems anyway. If you over-burden it with heavily processed, cooked foods and meat, there is barely any energy left to perform cleansing and repair functions.

Do you ever feel really tired after a meal? I know I have and I always thought it was normal. But you’ll find eating an 80% raw vegetarian diet, you will get the nutrition you need and have a lot more energy.

5 Great Reasons To Start Growing Your Own Fruit And Vegetables

A lot of people would like to start growing their own vegetables but often think that it is difficult and time consuming.  The truth is although you might need to spend a large amount of time setting things up at the beginning, the daily maintenance of your crop really doesn’t take too long.  You also don’t need a lot of space to be able to do it.  You could use a local allotment or a small raised garden bed and still get an abundance of great tasting organic vegetables.  There are a whole range of different benefits to growing our own vegetables and here are five of the best.

To Keep Healthy – Everyone knows that they should eat five portions of fruit and vegetables each day to have a healthier lifestyle.  You will often find that people who grow their own vegetables will tend to eat more of them, more often.  Not only this but spending time in the garden preparing the soil and maintaining everything you are growing is good exercise.

Save Money At The Supermarket – When you are able to harvest your own vegetables you will notice that you will save considerable amounts of money on your weekly food shopping.  Supermarkets tend to have special offers on packs of carrots and other veg, which often means you buy more than you need.  This means that you tend to be left with a lot of unused vegetables that get thrown away, with your own vegetables you just use what you need so you don’t end up wasting money.

For The Fresh Organic Taste – Nothing tastes better than eating fresh, organic vegetables.  Before vegetables in a shop or supermarket make it to the shelves they have had to of been picked, gathered and transported.  This means that a lot of that truly fresh organic flavour is lost during this process.

To Avoid The Use Of Unknown Pesticides – It is hard for any company to guarantee that no pesticides or other chemicals have been used on the plants and soil the vegetables are grown in.  These sorts of pesticides are often harmless to us and protect crops from disease and pests but many people don’t like the idea of them being used.  You can control what you put on your crops to make sure you know exactly what you are getting.

To Encourage Your Children To Eat More Healthy – It can often be a struggle to get children to eat things that are good for them.  It is a great idea to get your children involved in growing fruit and vegetables as it helps them learn and also will get them more motivated to try the different things they have helped to grow.  This is a great way to help promote healthy eating in your children from a young age.
