There are several methods being attempted and used for cleaner energy with varying degrees of success but not every tactics is suitable for every area. Solar and wind power are becoming more common, but neither are the most suitable for areas such as Western Washington. Western Washington is a very rainy place – not an appropriate region for relying on solar power.
Bloom Energy Boxes are an alternate choice to some of the other energy sources. Bloom boxes are created by Bloom Energy and are already being used by some large companies such as Google and Ebay. Bloom Boxes are fuel cells that take in oxygen and gaseous fuels, such as oil, gas, propane or solar and converts these into electricity. This cuts down on the loss of electricity through transmission as well as allowing people independence for their own power as they can take themselves from the grid if their building has a bloom box. Getting energy from a bloom box is also cheaper than acquiring power from the grid going through power companies. Bloom boxes produce stable, cleaner, cheaper power and are small, not much larger than a brick, so they take up little space. They have to be surrounded by a bigger unit that takes in the energy. These units are around the same size as a standard refrigerator and can be put outside the home. This unit is the device that actually takes in the energy source and delivers it to the bloom box.
The box houses a stack of special disks. The more disks you have the more energy there will be outputted. With 64 disks, enough electricity is created to power a Starbucks. A home could be powered with one or two of these boxes depending upon the location of the home and amount of power used.
One of the rainiest regions is Western Washington. The place lacks sufficient sun and wind needed for efficient solar and wind power. If bloom boxes can be spread around the area, people will still get cleaner energy for less money. Cleaner power can be achieved more efficiently than attempting to get power from resources that are not as abundant.
Some of the strategies being used for cleaner power don’t benefit Western Washington as well as other regions. If an area cannot produce power in a going green way, it is adding to the pollution and energy problems of the world. Bloom Energy Boxes might be the answer that Western Washington needs to have to acquire cleaner energy at a more efficient rate. There are many people who want to gain independence from the grid and reduce their power costs. This will also let people keep their power if there is a power outage or similar problem from the power companies. Western Washington would benefit from the more wide spread use of bloom boxes.
