Keeping The Chill In Your Multideck Chiller

As standard, when you buy commercial refrigeration, it is going to increase your energy bill. There are, however, things you can do to make a helpful 30% energy saving .

When you are going to buy a new multideck make sure to check the climate class of the unit so you can make sure you place it in the right ambient temperature . Also look at cabinet insulation thickness .

For a refrigerated multideck that you already have, there are some things you can do to help .

Location – If you put your cabinet near a heat source or even in direct sunlight, it will make the compressor work harder, increasing energy costs .

It will also impact on the unit if it is placed in a draft .

Do no overfill – most modern cabinet chillers require air circulation within the cabinet so overstocking can block this and affect the internal airflow causing the compressor to work too hard and may affect food temperatures and lead to waste .

Give me some air – multidecks also need space to ventilate properly from the sides and back . If spacers are provided use them. Refrigerators need to radiate heat away from the condenser to operate correctly and be energy efficient .

Shut that door! – maybe obvious but the simplest and most often overlooked . Fit a nightblind to a multideck chiller .

Service please – considering the inconvenience of a machine failure, which always happens at 7pm on a Friday, there are also the obvious health risks associated with incorrect food storage temperatures. A regular service by a competent engineer won’t stop this but certainly reduces the chances of it happening .

Many customers will ignore this because their machine is still under warranty – your car may have a long warranty but receives a yearly service and an MOT as well so why not your expensive catering equipment?
