It has been a fact that smoking is the largest cause of preventable death in the world. Many people die prematurely from smoking-related diseases each day.

Some of the smoking related diseases are cancer, heart disease, stroke and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or also know as Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COLD), and these are every nation’s top killers. Smoking has been identified as being the major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, and cancer – particularly lung cancer, cancers of the larynx and mouth, and pancreatic cancer, and these are the top killers in every country.

Over the years, medical experts and their studies have conclusive evidence that singled out smoking as the major cause of all thease diseases.

Studies have also shown that the social cost of smoking is very high and gauge it to be in the billions of dollars each year.

The reality of the smokers contracting these diseases are very high; slowly and surely, someday…you never know when. There are, however some signs. These signs are also know as smokers common ailments, and the smokers suffer from these ailments, everyday.

Smoker suffer from some of the following common ailments, such as:

  • wheezing and breathing nosily
  • always catch common cold
  • shortness of breath
  • persistent cough
  • irritated throat
  • dry skin
  • irritated eyes
  • always have mucus
  • some loss of taste
  • some loss of smell
  • yellowing of the fingernails
  • etc…

Smokers already faced frustrations with the suffering from the common ailments, yet they may have to withstand more frustrations that are accompanied by nagging or complaints by their loved ones, children, family members or even non-smoker friends. Some of these may include the following: 

  • your breadth is smelly
  • your clothing is smelly
  • you are polluting the air
  • daddy is smelly, i don’t want to play with him
  • you are putting me at risk of inhaling your second-hand smoke
  • you are spending money on something that don’t bring you any benefits
  • etc…

These nagging or complaints do add to the smokers frustrations, misery and even agony.

Sad it may be, but it is true that all smokers have self-denial – they believe they will not contract these diseases and died from them in time to come, following their smoking addictions. They even tell themselve that by then, they would have found a way to quit smoking.

Ask yourself,

  1. when was the last time you harbor that intention to stop smoking?
  2. have you consciously make an effort to quit smoking?
  3. have you found a way to help you quit smoking?

I’m not surprised if the answer is ‘negative’ to all the questions. So, when will you quit smoking? There is still time to win the quitting game, but there is no more time to lose !

Smokers cannot win the bet with the odds not in their favor. Every year, there are up to 4 million death due to smoking addictions and tobacco use around the world; OR ONE smoking-related death every 8 seconds, 24/7, 365 days a year. Think about the odds !

Smokers got to pull themselves together and seriously look at the harmful effects that smoking will cause. Only this way, will they realize their folly and make it a point to stop smoking.
